Cumberland School of Law, coached by Tuscaloosa Circuit Judge Jim Roberts, swept Region 8 and advanced to the national competition.

• During the first quarter of 2016, Cross & Smith recovered in excess of $2,400,000.00 in settlements for its clients. The cases involved several car accidents that occurred in Tuscaloosa, St. Clair and Cullman Counties in Alabama, Putnam County, Tennessee, Lowndes County, Mississippi and St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.
• In March, 2016, the firm recovered $100,000.00, the limits of liability insurance available, for a car accident that happened in Shelby County. The claim for underinsured motorist benefits is pending.
• Governor Bentley has appointed firm attorney Justin Smith to the University of West Alabama Board of Trustees. He was confirmed by the Alabama Senate on February 25, 2016 and will serve a six year term.
• The firm settled a personal injury wreck case filed in Talladega County during February 2016 that involved an 18-wheeler and commercial truck collision. The amount of the settlement is confidential.

• On January 22, 2016, firm attorney Dell Cross served on a Panel Discussion presented by Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers at the University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa. The topic was professionalism as required by the Alabama State Bar. In addition to Cross & Smith, the panel included the prominent Birmingham law firms of Lightfoot, Franklin & White, Marsh, Rickard & Bryan and Starnes Davis Florie.
• During the fall of 2015, Cross & Smith settled several car accident cases in Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas for a total of $550,000.00.
• The firm is investigating a products liability case to be filed in the Circuit Court of Limestone County involving the rollover of a utility vehicle. Our client suffered serious and permanent injuries as a result of the accident.

• During the summer months of 2015, Cross & Smith settled several car accident cases for a total of $890,000.00. The accidents happened in Fayette, Jefferson, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa and Walker Counties in Alabama and in Forrest County, Mississippi.

• Two separate ATV (4-wheeler) cases have been filed by the firm arising out of severe injuries suffered by two minors who were involved in the accidents. One case involves a side rollover on a rural roadway (filed in the Circuit Court of Shelby County) and in the other the ATV flipped over backwards when the thumb-controlled throttle was engaged (filed in the Circuit Court of Tuscaloosa County).
• The firm has settled an uninsured motorist case that was pending in the Circuit Court of Colbert County for $125,000.00 and a rear end car accident that happened in Cleburne County for $100,000.00.
